2018: Chinese Year of the Yang Earth Dog

February 16, 2018

Feb. 16, 2018, to Feb. 4, 2019

The Chinese year of the rooster had way too much crowing and strutting. Welcome to the year of intelligence, stability and loyalty. The year of the people-friendly yang earth dog! At least I’m hoping.

Here are several family pictures from shortly before I was born. Shep was my paternal grandfather’s farm dog. I don’t think you can get a better earth dog than one that grows up with the range of animals on a traditional farm. I don’t know where the picture with the two terriers was taken. But if you take any dog hunting, it will love you.

Chinese Year of the Horse 2014 Bead Wall Hangings

January 29, 2014

Only four wall hangings competed so far for this year’s Chinese New Year (January 31), the Year of the Horse. A fifth variation is planned but is awaiting recovery from a minor hand injury at work.

I wove these wall hangings on a wooden bead loom.  I then stitched the top rows together and inserted a wooden  stick.  The hangings are approximately 3½ inches wide.  The beads are Miyuki 8/0 glass seed beads. The most recent hanging is first.

These designs are my own.  Copyright © 2014 by Michael Smetzer.  Thank you for not duplicating them.
